Lamars Mastiffs was established back in 1986 when I acquired my first Mastiff, Lamars Brandon Le' Moose. He was 9 months old when I bought him and 160 pounds, a pretty big, red boy with the biggest head I had ever seen.
Thus began our love affair with the Mastiff breed. Over the years with each and every planned breeding I strive to improve my lines being very careful to breed only the best of the best. I have Mastiffs that I just love yet I would not dream of breeding them. Not every Mastiff should be bred. I breed for quality not quantity, I do not breed just to have pups, if you buy a Mastiff from Lamars you can be assured that extensive testing, planning and careful selection has gone into your puppy.
Lamars Mastiffs has been very successful in the show ring as well as being great ambassadors for the breed. Also many Lamars Mastiffs are now, and have been, certified and used as therapy dogs. We strive for good temperaments as well as structure and soundness.
"Twister's" son "Jimmy J" Ch. Lamars In it To Win it finished his Championship at 10 months of age. Getting multiple AKC puppy group placements with one being a group one and then went on to take multiple group placements in the group ring. "Jimmy" is the ultimate show dog he loves his job !!! "Jimmy" has taken this year off from showing but not from being a pappa.
Lamars has multiple MCOA Hall of Fame members, many home bred Champions, Award of Merit winner at the MCOA & REMC Specialties, AKC Eukanuba. And back to back MCOA Collar Award winner for "Twister."
Lamars participated in the gene discovery research for PRA (progressive retinal atrophy) conducted by Cornell University. We bred and co-owned the dam to the Meagles (Mastiff crossed with Beagle, Husky, Irish Setter and Poodle) "Ch.Lamars Nut' N But Trouble" who was owned and loved by my good friend Carrie Del Bonta.
"Trouble" did her part giving us six beautiful babies with two being positive for PRA thus proving it to be a dominant gene. Thank you Carrie & Trouble for all your hard work in bringing the Meagles into the world.
For more information please refer to our PRA DNA page shown above.
Carrie has Copper and I have her twin Rocket they are beautiful long-haired dogs that resemble Leonbergers with the sweetest temperament. We almost wish we could have repeated that breeding.:-)
Eric and I love to show our dogs and enjoy the camaraderie with our dog show buddies. Come look us up at a show we are always available to discuss this wonderful breed with anyone.
